SAMANTHA YU
Lover of electronic dance music and techno, catch me jumping from festival to festivals! Yes, music gives me life, but so does amazing typography.
I majored in Communication Design, with a module in Advertising Art, at CUNY New York City College of Technology. After interning for a startup with a business consultant, Geraldy Jean-Baptiste, I continued my studies. Upon graduation, I went on to do design and marketing at Sparta Commercial Services as an intern, and it is also where I still currently work.
I balanced my day job with personal creative work, like drawing, and doing my favorite hobbies, like volleyball and handball. Being able to draw anytime, anywhere allowed me to come up with some cool ideas for branding for small companies and startups.
My creative approach—no matter the medium—is to find points of tension behind the idea I’ve been assigned. I do several drafts and through careful judgements from myself and peers, I come up with a final approach.
For me, design isn’t just about aesthetics, but rather, a way to entice your audience. It’s a way to plant a little bit of desire in their hearts; a yearning to turn the page and understand more about your idea and most importantly about the client.
